GAZA: A nurse working at a hospital in the southern Gaza Strip found his son and other family members among the injured brought in after an Israeli airstrike.
Rami Abu Libda made the shock discovery at Kuwait Hospital in the wake of the attacks in western Rafah.
On Wednesday night, the Israeli military bombed two houses in Rafah, southern Gaza, killing at least 15 people, six of them children.
At least 11 of those who died had been displaced from Khan Younis and were taking refuge in Rafah, where the Israeli army had previously ordered civilians to relocate for their “safety.”
One of the homes hit in the raids belonged to Abu Libda’s neighbors. Due to the pressures Kuwait Hospital has been facing since Oct. 7, the nurse had not seen family members for months and had only spoken occasionally to them by phone.
Kuwait Specialty Hospital is a small healthcare facility in Rafah, but despite having limited resources Abu Libda and his colleagues have refused to abandon the medical center.
Almost half of Gaza’s population is now concentrated in Rafah after fleeing from the northern and central parts of the Strip, according to UN figures.
